Belmont field gaining interest
Curlin is clearly the headliner in Saturday’s Belmont Stakes, although the remainder of the field has become increasingly interesting as the race approaches.
Hard Spun, Imawildandcrazyguy, Tiago and Slew’s Tizzy have been definite from the start - and each camp reports positive vibes.
Hard Spun gets a rider switch from Pino to Gomez, although the presence of Digger, who has absolutely no chance yet may be gunned to the lead, may prove a detriment.
The Belmont has been the race trainer Bill Kaplan has been licking his chops to race in all spring with Imawildandcrazyguy. Tiago has reportedly gotten better with both time and experience, and Slew’s Tizzy is on top of his game.
The surprise appearance of Time Squared presents yet another option to complete the exotics. Time Squared, a New York-bred, has long been held in high regard by Biancone even before his career debut, yet has not fulfilled those hopes. Should the light-bulb finally turn on, he could surprise with a good effort at a big price.
And most intriguing of all would be the inclusion of the wildly talented Pletcher filly, Rags to Riches. She has the breeding to handle the distance, and has already proven herself lengths better than any of her female classmates.
Entries for the Belmont Stakes, race 11 of a 13-race Saturday card at Belmont, will be drawn on Wednesday.
