Thursday’s feature at Belmont Park is a competitive turf sprint, and while only drawing a field of six, a strong case can be made for half of the field.

The top call goes to Queen Amira, the Bill Mott trainee who was put in a tough spot right at the break of her latest, eventually finishing second to Brushed Bayou. The six furlong distance suits her very well, and with plenty of pace up front, Gomez should find the table set to uncork her rally turning for home.

The one factor playing against her is the possibility of soft turf. The Mets game was rained out after six innings on Wednesday night, and Queen Amira seems to like the ground firm.

Other major factors in here include Lemon Drop Gal, who makes just her second start of ths season for Jimmy Jerkens. As the 2-1 morning line choice, she looms the one to fear beneath Desormeaux.

Somethingaboutbetty ran well in a pair of tries down the hillside turf course at Santa Anita this winter, although her best races have been on the engine, and she will not have the lead in here with the speedy likes of Just Starting and Runaway Cat.
