With heavy rains of late in the New York area, today’s Pick of the Day resides at Del Mar, where the weather always cooperates.

A record crowd packed Del Mar for opening day on Wednesday, which also ushered in the Polytrack-era. The feature attraction on Day #2 of the meet is Race 7, an optional claimer at 1 1/16 miles.

Seemingly an evenly matched field with quite a bit of early speed on paper, so we will take a flyer with Mr. Katz (8-1) to rally from off the pace.

Mr. Katz won his last in convincing fashion, and seems to possess that big late kick that will likely prove successful at this meet.
